Hunting for new antiques in New England

Wednesday, December 28, 2011
This week I am in New England hunting for new items for my booth! Super cold but not too much snow and hopefully lots of great finds because the booth is sparse right now due to a wonderful month of sales in December!

In our permanent home!

We have moved from my garage, to a storage space, to a warehouse, to a temporary booth at the antique store, and now to our permanent space all in the past month!

Visit us now at Sheffield's Antiques in Collierville, TN.  We are Aisle H on the left about half way down the aisle.

Here is what we have been working on at Ella May Designs...

This chair went from

to this

to this adorable chair!
{unfortunately this chair was a custom piece and is already spoken for}

Then this vintage 50s coffee table went from this (already has stripper goo on it)

to this gorgeous French beauty! Working drawer with great little knob.  Great aqua color on the base with slight distressing.

the top is stained a dark walnut but still shows the gorgeous inlaid X design
{Available $250}

Another great find!! This table with extra leaf (not shown in photo) and 6 chairs
A gorgeous set for a kitchen or even a formal dining room if you want a more casual (and probably more often used!) formal dining room

during its facelift...the top is in the process of being stripped.
You can see the extra leaf in the table in this photo.

The final product
I didn't get a photo before I wrapped it up for storage but here's a sneak peek.
Distressed and glazed Old World White (Ivory) base with a dark walnut stained top

The chairs match the base....Old World White (Ivory) with distressing and glaze. Rush seats.

{Table with extra leaf and 6 chairs $900}

Sweet French chair painted aqua and dry-brushed with grey then glazed. Linen seat
{This chair already has its forever home}

Adorable aqua mirror with flecks of gold peeking through.
To slightly mis-quote Dr. Seuss...oh the places you could go...above a vanity in a small bathroom, above a dresser in a bedroom, on a wall with a plate grouping or sconces flanking it, above an entry table, the list goes on and on..
{Mirror $100}

Pine hutch
Great size, great construction, great piece.

{Pine Hutch $900}

Pine dresser
Great shape. I picture this finding its home in a little boys bedroom but maybe you have other plans for it?

{Pine chest $500}

Distressed Aqua china cabinet with french grey inside
{While I didn't purchase this piece for myself, I couldn't part with her after it was finished. It is currently providing a great pop of color in my dining room}

Terrible, terrible photo but this is 1 of 2 matching corner cabinets that I picked up.  They have not been painted yet and they need 2 shelves made for the top.  If you are interested, you can pick the color.  Otherwise, I will be painting them in the coming weeks and probably not as a pair.

I think corner cabinets are perfect for kids rooms.  You can store some of the knick-knacks from their childhood like baby cups and maybe even a few of their current sports trophies.

{2 available $150 each painted and with 2 additional shelves}

Like us on Facebook so you can keep up with us as we get new inventory.  You can also follow this blog as we will update pieces here as well.  We will try to show you pieces before they are painted so that you can select a custom color.

Ella May Designs will be moving their inventory into an antiques store at the first of the year. We will provide more details once everything is finalized.  In the meantime, you can continue to purchase pieces directly from us.

What I am working on now...

Saturday, October 1, 2011
Picked up a few things this past week and I have pretty much finished this coffee table and it only needs a new handle on the drawer.  It came to me in good condition but with a dated stain.  I striped the top, restained it a dark walnut, and painted the base a gorgeous aqua shade.  Waxed the piece and after I find a handle for the drawer, it will be in my inventory.
I picked up this gorgeous, gorgeous French country table with a leaf and 6 chairs.  Everything in great condition.  I think it will be perfect in someone's dining room or kitchen.  I have even contemplated keeping it for myself. It is in great shape already but I may strip down the top and stain it darker while I paint the base of the table a cream or maybe a french blue.  I would paint the chairs (except the seat) the same color as the table base color.  This is my project next week.

Got this great English wall shelf with four drawers this past week.  I think it would look great on someone's wall with a collection of blue/white dishes or Herend pieces.  Funny thing is I had been looking for this for my home.  I couldn't find one for a long time and finally went a different direction with the space.  Now I find one and its going into my inventory.

Finally this chair which is hard to see in this terrible iPhone picture.  I stripped layers of old fabric, batting, and webbing off this chair.  I am going to tighten up the joints, reupholster it, and possibly put it with my daughter's desk.  It needs no painting because it is in great shape.

This week I am hunting for a great sideboard, dressers, and chairs that need some TLC.
